    Description

1892 FREDERICK REMINGTON WESTERN PRINT ROAPING COWBOY
    ORIGINAL ANTIQUE 1903 PRINT OF
    FREDERICK REMINGTON'S
    WEST TEXAS COWBOY
    USING HIS ROPING SKILLS
    "SNAPPING A ROPE ON A HORSE'S FOOT"
You are bidding on an original  antique 3-1/2" x 4" engraved print of Frederick
Remington's "SNAPPING A ROPE ON A HORSES'S FOOT". This beautiful black and white print is of historical significance and was produced in 1892 from an engraving.  The print appeared in a book published in 1892 which describes the impressions of an Easterner who spent three months traveling through Texas, Oklahoma and Colorado.  The print captures Remington's impressions of  a typical cowboy preparing to rope a horse's foot.
The quality of this print may be seen in the scan that accompanies this auction.  The paper shows some degree of  aging which reflects that it is an original antique and not a reproduction.  The paper is in excellent condition for its age.
The overall size of the paper is appx. 5" x 7-1/2", providing
a suitable boarder around the print to allow it to be easily matted.

    ABOUT PRINTS MADE FROM ENGRAVINGS:
Images in early newspapers and books were using engraved metal plates. These prints were commonly used to illustrate all kinds of subjects before photographic images began to appear in print around 1800.  Copper or steel plates were carefully engraved to by skilled artist.  These plates were used in the printing process to produce high quality images to illustrate books and newspapers.
