Description

This an antique, 1927 Owens Glass Half Gallon jug commonly used in the Prohibition Era for Moonshine.  The vintage glass bottle is embossed "One Half Gallon" on the upper front and "685A" on the lower base.  The bottom of the bottle is embossed with the O within a Square mark used by the Owens Glass company between 1911 and 1929 prior to the merger with Illinois Glass.  The Mark is between the numbers "2" and "7" with the number "5" beneath.  From what I've read, the number "2" identifies the plant as Huntington, WVA, and the "7" as the year 1927.  The number "685A" is a mold number.  The half gallon glass jar could be ordered from a catalog and was used for things as diverse as vinegar to gasoline.  It is most recognizable as a container for homemade Moonshine.  My father, an avid bottle hunter, found the vintage bottle in the ruins of an old homestead in Virginia more than 40 years ago.  The vintage cork topped jug (cork is missing) is in great shape, free from breaks or cracks.  Clarity is nice for a 100 year old bottle.  The old bottle measures about 10.5" tall and 4.75" wide.
Please Note: This is an empty bottle sold for collectible purposes.
