HISTORY: This letter is addressed to Mrs. Ruth Francess Reuss of Cuero, Texas.  Her and the husband were the owners of a very old drug store in Cuero, Texas.  Damon Burial Association wants her to pay her dues.  Apparently, the Knights of Pythias had a policy that one of their group passed away, each member was to contribute money to the deceased person's cause.
The letter, dated April 1st, 1936, starts our with,
"It is by this means that we notify you of the death of
Mrs. Sue Lawhon of Troup, Texas.
Your assessment is .10 and must be paid not later than 15 days from date of notice or you will be subject to suspension.   Kindly pay within the allotted time, for prompt payment makes a successful Association.  REMEMBER when you are called on to pay an assessment that the proceeds go in to the home of a grief stricken PYTHIAN and one knows who is next.   Fraternally yours,  C. E. Rutledge Jr., Secretary."
The following is a wonderful email sent to me by a descendent relative of Sue Lawhon, aka "Susie"....    I am so very thankful to have received this email !
"Aunt Susie was my great, great aunt.  She lived on Cross Street in Troupe, Texas.  My grandmother was very fond of her Aunt Susie.  We went to lunch in Troupe many times when I was in the area visiting my grandmother.  Susie was the daughter of Robert Engledow and Harriett Catherine Bell.  There were 14 Engledow brothers and sisters.  How interesting that you found documents involving Susie."
