Description
4pc Barker Bros 1950 English Sterling Silver Victorian Style Coffee Tea SetPresented is a vintage, English sterling silver 4 piece tea and coffee set made by the Barker Brothers Silver Company of Birmingham between 1950 and 1951. This matching set is done in an ornate, early 19th century, Georgian style. Each piece is hand chased with beautiful scrolls and flowers. The sugar bowl and creamer have a lovely gold wash on their interiors. This is a wonderful quality and heavy weight set. The pieces have cartouches that have never been monogrammed.
Each piece is marked with the lion passant for sterling silver purity, the anchor symbol for the city of Birmingham and a maker's mark for the Barker Brothers. The teapot, sugar and creamer were an original set of 3 and all have a date letter A for the year 1950; the coffeepot was commissioned a year later to match the set exactly and it bears a B date letter for the year 1951. Although the pieces were not all made at the same time, this is certainly a matching set all made by the same craftsmen.
This set includes:
1 Coffeepot: 10 1/2 inches from handle to spout and 8 3/4 inches tall.
1 Teapot: 11 1/2 inches from handle to spout and 5 3/4 inches tall.
1 Sugar Bowl: 8 inches from handle to handle and 5 inches tall.
1 Creamer. 5 1/2 inches from handle to spout and 3 1/8 inches tall.
This set is in fabulous overall condition and the designs are very crisp. The coffeepot handle is a little loose, but this can easily be fixed. There is hardly any surface wear and the light wear there is can easily be buffed/polished out.
Total Weight: 2,097 grams or 6.4 pounds.
