Description
Presented is a fantastic sterling silver 5 piece tea set. This is an American piece, dating to 1889. The tea set is very attractive and well made, with beautiful hand chasing in spiral and acanthus leaf designs. This theme of leaves is continued on the spouts of the two pots and on the junctures of the legs to the bodies of all the pieces as well. The pieces have nice lion paw or claw style feet. The rims of the pieces are done in a gadrooned style edge. Everything but the waste bowl has attractively scrolled handles. This is a wonderful hand crafted set, with visible marks of hand hammering on the interiors. Each piece of the tea set is monogrammed on the underside with 'ERB' in elegant script. These pieces are very clean inside and out, ready for use or display. The underside of each piece is hallmarked 'sterling' and with the date of production, 1889, as well as the retailer, Howard & Co of New York. On the underside of one of the feet on the creamer, the waste bowl, and the teapot is the maker's mark for Frank W. Smith Silver Co.
Each piece of the tea set is in great condition. The handles are tight to the bodies and very secure. The hinges are in great shape. There are no splits, no leaks, no dents, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
