Presented is a handsome very heavy weight sterling silver coffee and tea service made by Bigelow, Kennard & Company. Each piece is raised up on four ball feet and has an attractive lobed design on the body, a very classical form. The rims and the handles are ornamented with a thick applied bands of flowers and leaves that were cast separately and applied. The kettle on stand and the two pots have elegant dark wood handles. The set is very well made and has exceptional weight. It has never been monogrammed or engraved. You can see the hand hammered work on the interior of the lidded pieces, the three pots and the covered sugar bowl. All of these pieces were hand raised, fabulous quality construction.
The set includes:
Kettle on stand: 8 3/4 inches wide from handle to spout and 13 1/4 inches tall
Coffee pot: 8 7/8 inches wide from handle to spout and 6 5/8 inches tall
Teapot: 10 1/8 inches wide from handle to spout and 5 1/4 inches tall
Creamer: 6 inches wide from handle to spout and 4 3/4 inches tall
Covered sugar bowl: 7 1/4 inches wide across the handles and 4 3/8 inches tall
Waste bowl: 5 1/4 inches wide and 3 5/8 inches tall
Each piece is marked on the underside with Bigelow Kennard & Co. Makers and Sterling. Tested and guaranteed to be sterling Silver. The set was made in the last quarter of the 1800s, probably the 1890s.
The set is in great condition overall. All 6 pieces are clean on the interior and ready to use. The handles are tight to the bodies. There are a few very minor/little dings here and there, but this is ridiculously inconsequential. Please let the photographs be your guide There are no dents of any significance, no splits, no breaks, and no repairs.
The combined weight of the set is 5800 grams or 203.2 ounces. One of the heaviest six piece sterling silver coffee and tea sets you will ever find, and the heavy weight is indicative of the overall quality.
