At Longview Farm, in Jackson County, Missouri, there are several excellent examples of homes from the early part of the 20th Century. This house was for the Assistant Manager of the farm and is a charming example of a classic Bungalow design that uses its attic space especially well. It is also graced with one of those generous front porches that makes bungalow homes so comfortable. Sadly, this house and the others at Longview Farm have long since fallen into disrepair. The photo shown here was taken in 1978, after it had been abandoned.
As a work of art these plans are worth purchasing in their own right. For those of you interested in building a historically inspired house, these plans offer an excellent starting point. Living Room, Dining Room, and Kitchen occupy the first floor, with a large porch in front and a smaller screened porch in back. The stairs off the Living Room lead to the attic, which contains 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. What was originally a screened sleeping porch was later enclosed. This house would be most appropriate for a flat or low sloping lot, preferably where it could be surrounded by gardens on all sides. Including porches, the house has outside dimensions of approximately 32'x38'.
The original drawings were beautifully delineated in 1979, by the Historic American Building Survey.

IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO BUILD:
These plans are not complete architectural drawings as might be required by your local permitting agency and do not contain all the structural, waterproofing and other details and information necessary for construction. But your local builder or architect should be able to adapt these drawings and add to them as necessary. What they do provide is accurate design information about a REAL historic house, not a pseudo-historic tract house as you will find in the house plan magazines on your supermarket shelf.
    INTERNATIONAL BUYERS PLEASE NOTE:
Orders shipped to addresses outside the USA may be subject to customs duties at their destination. The buyer is responsible for any such duties.
The original drawings from which these dimensionally accurate scans were made are kept at the Historic American Building Survey, in the Library of Congress.
