    Description

This coin is catalogued by David Hendin as H-1351, in his tome "Guide to Biblical Coins" - 5th edition.  Porcius Festus replaced Antonius Felix as Procurator of Jerusalem, from 59-62 CE.  The coin was struck between 58 and 59 CE, corresponding to the fifth year of Nero's imperial reign.  Festus sent the apostle Paul to Rome to be tried, where he was ultimately found guilty and executed.
The obverse of this prutah has the legend "NEP/WNO/C (of Nero) within a wreath.  All the letters are visible.  The reverse bears the legend "LE KAICAPOC" (year 5 of Caesar) and a palm branch.  The Palm frond is very sharp, but the legend is not visible.
