Description
Up for sale is an antique Wallace sterling silver 3 pint teapot in the "Antique" pattern. It has the number 3370 stamped on the bottom. Researching it online we think it was likely made in the 1920s - 30s. It is engraved with the letter "L."Let me say this upfront: Shiny sterling silver is hard to photograph. I don't know how the pros do it.
We bought this teapot years ago at an antique sale for entertaining. My wife liked the L on it, she says it stands for "Love." We are retired and trying to downsize, therefore we are now selling this teapot as we no longer use it. Hopefully love and good karma will be passed on to the next owner :)
This teapot is appealing to us because it has an unusual, organic shape that is unbroken from the top of the pot to the foot. Each end terminates into a floral like motif. Pulling it back from nature, the squared handle and spout give it a formal edge. The business portion of the handle is attached with an animal based material (bone, ivory) or early celluloid plastic. There is a little tarnish in those areas that I could not clean with ordinary silver polish and a rag. The knob on the lid appears to be ebony wood, perfect for protecting one's fingers from the heat collecting under the sterling lid.
The teapot is in overall great, solid condition with minimal scratches and dings not seen unless examined closely. There is a shallow horizontal dent near the base of the spout and a tiny dent where the handle attaches to the pot (see photos #10 & 11.) The inside of the handle has scratches likely from a user's rings but not visible unless sought out. The lid and substantial hinge work perfectly.
The teapot measures about 10 1/4 inches tall and 4 1/2 inches in diameter at its widest point. It weighs 31.05 ounces.
