completely hand crafted
Arthur Stone
sterling silver tea service & matching tray.
Owned by Mr & Mrs. Henry Ford II.
Stone was born 1847 in and trained in England.
Came to America 1884 working for William Durgin as
master silversmith & designer.
Opened his own shop 1901
Gardner, Massachusetts.
One of the last independent
designers and master silversmiths in
new England
to train and employ other
Masters & apprentices.
Written provenance details provided winning bidder.
Set never monogrammed, despite being owned by the Fords.
This ex Mrs. Henry Ford II Arthur Stone hand wrought kettle & stand 13 inches
tall the teapot 10 1/2 inches handle to spout and the matching
tray for afternoon tea 28 1/2 inches.
The complete set weighs 280 standard ounces.
Hallmarked as shown including the Hammer & Stone mark
as well as several pieces from Benjamin Harrison, who worked with
Stone 1912 - 1937 and Herbert Taylor with Stone 1908 - 1937
In very, very fine condition.
Interiors clean as if little used.
Retains original detail.
Rich sterling patina throughout.
Original handles secure.
