This 3-story house over a partial basement is based on the rare and striking octagon plan, with porches wrapping all around and crowned by a cupola which brings light down the central stair well. The first floor contains four principal rooms wrapping around the stair core. The second and third floors each contain four bedrooms and ancillary rooms. As is typical of homes of this period, bathing and toilet facilities are minimal. But the plan would be very easy to update to modern requirements.
The original drawings were beautifully delineated in 1935, with all the style and grace of draftsmanship of that era. These drawings include beautiful interior details of doors, windows, stairs and trim. The originals rest in the Library of Congress. As a work of art these prints are worth purchasing in their own right. For those of you interested in building a historically inspired house, these plans could easily be reduced and adapted to a 2-story design, ideal for a country setting with porches wrapping all around.
SHIPPING: Once your payment has cleared Paypal your file will be emailed to your Paypal listed email address and marked as "shipped". Please make certain your email service is capable of receiving attachments of at least 15 MB. Although I attempt to fulfill orders daily please allow up to 48 hours to receive your emailed file. IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO BUILD: These plans are not complete architectural drawings as might be required by your local permitting agency and do not contain all the structural, waterproofing and other details and information necessary for construction. But your local builder or architect should be able to adapt these drawings and add to them as necessary. What they do provide is accurate design information about a REAL Antebellum house, not a pseudo-southern tract house as you will find in the house plan magazines on your supermarket shelf
INTERNATIONAL BUYERS PLEASE NOTE: Orders shipped to addresses outside the USA may be subject to customs duties at their destination. The buyer is responsible for any such duties.
The original drawings from which these dimensionally accurate scans were made are kept at the Historic American Building Survey, in the Library of Congress.
