    Description

Presented is a beautiful Gorham silver tea or coffee pot. This piece dates to around 1855-1865. The pot is wonderfully hand chased with acanthus leaf designs against a pebbled finish. There are bands of fancy Greek key design around the lid, the body, and the base. This classic motif is continued on the handle and the spout. One side of the pot has a monogram of P.H. in ornate Gothic script. The pot has a capacity of 7 cups/56 fluid ounces, or 1.66 liters.
This piece is in excellent condition. The details of the chasing and texturing are nice and sharp. The handle is tight to the body. The lid closes well and has a sturdy hinge. There are no splits, no leaks, no dents, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
The underside of the piece is stamped with the maker's mark for Gorham. At this early point in Gorham's history they worked in both coin and sterling silver, so we are unsure which this piece is, since it is unmarked. The difference in purity between coin and sterling is small enough that it is difficult to test.
This piece is about 12 1/2 inches tall.
This piece weighs 1068 grams or 37.7 regular ounces.
