    Description

[028339] (Americana - Long Island - Oakdale - Vanderbilt Estate).
The Idlehour Log Cabin Montauk Highway, Oakdale, L.I., N.Y.
Oakdale, L.I., N.Y.: The Idlehour Log Cabin Montauk Highway, 1955. Small advertising card for this restaurant-touring stop on Long Island, printed with two columns of information. On the left side are offered: Information Bureau, Building Contracts, First Aid Outfits, Real Estate, Bus Stop, Gifts by Lucy P.S. Thompson, Broker; on the right side of the card, Inn Accommodations, Sandwiches, Sea Food, Fruit - Vegetables, Homemade Foods, Cigarettes and Pyroil; these goods & services tendered by James A. Tafe & Marie A. Tafe. Card approx. 3 1/2" x 4 1/4" size; no publisher or date but circa 1950s. Our research indicates Ms. Thompson was part of the organization which converted part of the Vanderbilt estate to town houses and apartments for the artists' colony at Oakdale on the old property, now the grounds of the former Dowling College. Light wear, a little darkened; interesting ephemera relating to the real estate development of this estate & Suffolk County. In very good condition.
