Description
French Sterling Silver Egoist Single Serve Coffee Tea pot Marked 950 fine II Makers Mark with Charge Mark for Silver In Bordeaux made 1774-1780Presented is a French solid silver single serve Egoist coffee/tea pot with Hallmarks for silver made in French maker’s mark ii with a crown with a charge mark for silver made in Bordeaux c1774-1780. French silver of this period is usually made of 950 fine silver. American standard sterling silver is 925 fine; so there is slightly more silver in this alloy. I have posted a picture of my research on this mark in the photos above. This beautiful detailed egoist has a great floral motif with a duck bill open spout above an elegant engraved cross, a dark wood handle on the side, three scrolled end feet, a hinge pin lid with scrolled motif thumb. It is in beautiful condition with only some dings, what appears to be an old repair visible in interior but no leaks, a period engraved cross and some fine scratches from gentle use and care. It is and excellent piece for the silver collector.
I have an interesting assortment of items listed so please look at my other auctions.
