C.F. Kling(?) Germany marked 15” Low Brow Black Hair China Doll with earring holes
This pretty German porcelain china doll was in my husband's grandmother's collection.
She is 15”long and her head circumference is 8-1/4”.
She is clearly marked “Germany” above “189 (bell symbol) 7” on her upper back.
Another interesting feature is that the initials “CH” are etched below her front left shoulder (see photos), and I assume these are the initials of her sculptor or artist.
A little research indicates that the bell mark should mean that she is a C.F. Kling & Company porcelain doll, and if this is accurate, she would have been manufactured sometime between 1880-1941 although she appears to perhaps be a later doll.  *Revision 7/14/2021 NOTE:  I have received feedback from two viewers that she is likely a reproduction Kling.*  When the creases of her black hair hit the light just right, her hair appears to include flecks of gold (which I tried to capture in one of photos).
Another unique feature is that her ears have holes for earrings.
Her porcelain head is in perfect condition.
She has a very pretty face which looks slightly to the right, and blue eyes.
Her arms and legs are ever so slightly crazed (especially on the back of her legs).
It is not terribly obvious, and this is the first doll I’ve had to examine with a magnifying glass just to be sure I was seeing crazing.
I can find no evidence of chips, hairline cracks, or repairs on any part of her body.
Her black “shoes” are painted on her legs.
She also has red painted fingernails.
Her cloth body is in excellent condition.
The back left side of her body has what look to be stains of some type – but they also appear to be original to her construction since they very clearly stop at both adjoining seams. There are a couple of age spots on the front of the body.
Her dress is a deep purple satin material with lace at the sleeves and photos are included of all sides.
She wears three layers clothes as pictured.
Her underdress is white cloth with pink ribbon and lace.
She also sports matching bloomers.
She comes with her stand.
Her last three homes in our family have been non-smoking; no odor.
