HENRY VII'S CHAPEL WESTMINSTE ABBEY
This wonderful Chapel was founded in the
closing years of the 15th century by our
last mediaeval king, Henry VII. It was
to be his chantry and his tomb, and he pro-
vided for a new establishment of monks to
sing in their stalls as long as the world should
endure. In 1509 Henry was laid to rest
here at Westminster, it is one of the stateliest
and daintiest monuments of Europe; so that
he dwelleth more richly dead than he did alive
in any of his palaces. The Chapel and its
aisles also contain the tombs of Edward VI,
Mary, Elizabeth and several later sovereigns.
Above the magnificent carved oak stalls
which line each side of the nave hang the
gorgeous banners of the Knights of the Bath.
