In the year 1695 the Olney family built a gambrel roofed cottage in Lincoln Woods, Rhode Island. Just a single room on the ground floor and a single room in the attic, this little house served the family well. Just before the revolution the family expanded the cottage with a 2 story addition, the home we see today.
The prints you are purchasing are crisp, high resolution black line copies on white bond paper. The original drawings were beautifully delineated in 1961. This extensive set of 10 drawing sheets includes a cover sheet with notes, 2 floor plans, 4 elevations, 2 sections and many details of authentic pre-revolutionary details such as fireplaces, windows, exterior and interior trim. The original drawings rest in the Library of Congress.
As a work of art these prints are worth purchasing in their own right. For those of you interested in building a historically inspired house, these plans offer an excellent starting point. The first floor offers the potential for a ground level bedroom suite, as well as Living Room, Dining Room and a Kitchen large enough to satisfy all modern needs. The second floor offers enough space to accommodate a Master Bedroom suite as well as 2 addition bedrooms and a bath. Please note that the drawings you are purchasing are of a REAL colonial house and do not contain modern conveniences such as indoor baths. But these plans are very suitable to adaptation to modern needs. Although ideal for a flat site, these plans would also work on a moderately sloping one. This house would be comfortable in a suburb or country setting. The main house has outside dimensions of approximately 28’x55’. The ground floor contains approximately 1080 square feet. The second floor covers a similar area except that the space over the kitchen has a low ceiling.
Please visit my other auctions for many other drawings I am offering. I have house plans in wide variety of styles including Colonial, Craftsman, and Prairie, as well as plans of architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Irving Gill, Purcell & Elmslie and others.

If you are planning to build
: These plans are not complete architectural drawings as might be required by your local permitting agency and do not contain all the structural, waterproofing and other details and information necessary for construction. But your local builder or architect should be able to adapt these drawings and add to them as necessary. What they do provide is accurate design information about a REAL colonial house, not a pseudo-colonial tract house as you will find in the house plan magazines on your supermarket shelf.
