HOW ENGLNAD GOT ITS NAME
After the depart of the Romans from the island of Britain in around the year AD 400,
various Germanic tribes from the continent began invading. The most numerous of these
were the Angles, the Saxons and the Jutes. Jutland in Denmark is named after the Jutes,
Saxony in Germany is named after the Saxons, and England comes from the Angles.
They named their newly conquered land 'Anglaland', or 'land of the Angles'. Over the
last 1,500+ years, the name of England has changed and mutated into what we have
today.
