Description:
In celebration of the State of Israel's 41th Anniversary, the Israel Government Coins and Medals Corporation has minted a new and exciting coin set. The new sheqel coins are struck on double thickness, extra heavy blanks (Piefort). All five coins, the 1 agora, 5 agorot, 10 agorot, 1/2 new sheqel and 1 new sheqel, are of outstanding quality. Each coin is mint marked with a tiny Star of David and the mint date 1989-5749.
The 1/2 new sheqel coin bears a lyre design taken from an antique seal which belonged to a Judean princess of the 7th Century B.C.E.
The 1 new sheqel coin has a lily and the inscription "YHD" in ancient Hebrew script, derived from a Judean coin from time of Persian rule (4th Century B.C.E. - 6th Century B.C.E.).
