In addition to the famous library at the University of Virginia, Thomas Jefferson designed the Academic Village, a cluster of pavilions, linked by arcades, that served as housing for students and teachers alike. As an ensemble it is one of the finest pieces of Palladian architecture in the world and inspired generations of traditional American buildings. Each pavilion on its own is a delightful essay in applying the elements of American colonial architecture to a modest sized dwelling.
The original drawings were beautifully delineated in 1986. This extensive set of 12 drawing sheets includes a site plan, 2 floor plans, 3 elevations, 2 full sections and several sheets of beautifully and accurately drawn details of both the interior and exterior. This is pavilion I and is located in the northern corner of the village, immediately adjacent to the Library.
As a work of art these prints are worth purchasing in their own right. For those of you interested in building a historically inspired house, these plans could easily be adapted to a flat to moderately sloping sight. The house has several large rooms on the main floor and could easily accommodate a ground floor master bedroom suite. The upper floor could be arranged for 3 bedrooms and 2 baths. The design is suitable for a suburban or country setting.

IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO BUILD:
These plans are not complete architectural drawings as might be required by your local permitting agency and do not contain all the structural, waterproofing and other details and information necessary for construction. But your local builder or architect should be able to adapt these drawings and add to them as necessary. What they do provide is accurate design information about a REAL historic house, not a pseudo-historic tract house as you will find in the house plan magazines on your supermarket shelf.
INTERNATIONAL BUYERS PLEASE NOTE:
Orders shipped to addresses outside the USA may be subject to customs duties at their destination. The buyer is responsible for any such duties.
The original drawings from which these dimensionally accurate scans were made are kept at the Historic American Building Survey, in the Library of Congress.
