John Randash, of John Randash Wood Carving
John Randash is a highly talented, award-winning, master wood carver who specializes in meticulously hand carving fish, bringing them to life in all their authentic colors.
John has been receiving awards since he started carving.
Most recently, in April 2022, John was doubly honored with both the First Place Award and the People’s Choice Award at the Red River Valley International Wood Arts Festival.
John’s other accomplishments have included first-place awards from Red River Valley Woodcarvers and the Wood ArtsFestival.
In addition, he is a sought after instructor for wood carving classes.
John’s career included work as a professional carpenter, painter, and taxidermist.
The skills he gained over many years in these professions, together with his experience as an avid hunter, angler, and outdoorsman, have given John truly unique talents and perspective.
He combined these skills with his creativity when he started wood carving.
John takes his carving seriously and takes great pride in his creations.
He starts each fish with a block of bass wood and, using knives, chisels, and other special tools, carefully brings to life a hand-carved, handsome, life-like fish.
Next comes the hand-painting, which includes multiple layers of paint applied to give each fish the lustrous depth, detail, and appearance of a real fish.
John Randash Wood Carving is based in Moorhead, Minnesota.
