Description

Large original photo printed on heavy stock photo paper of the airship Hindenburg ascending from the Deutsche Zeppelin Reederei international operating base at Frankfurt am Main in bright sunshine providing a spectacular view of the airship, hangar and the German-style, manually-powered, mobile mooring mast. No evidence of the date of this flight or its destination, though typical departures to the US or Brazil occurred at approximately 8 p.m. so this is possibly one of the airships intra-Germany flights. Olympic rings are present denoting the year as 1936 and the lower fin is finished in its modified style following damage incurred in March 1936 prior to the propaganda flight and still evident on the first South American flight. Photo measures approximately 6 1/4 inches by 11 5/8 inches. Some curling and light bends at the edges and corners, though image is solid and light imperfections do not show when kept in acid-free album page. While one unscrupulous eBay seller copied this photo within hours of my listing and is suddenly selling copies of this exact same photo, this is an original dating to the 1930s. Watermarking the image so as to preclude copying prevents you from seeing clearly that which may interest you. Have not encountered this photo in English or German sources with which I'm familiar, only in said unscrupulous eBay seller's listings. Thank you for looking at this and my other auctions.
