LEGEND OF ROBIN HOOD ENGLISH OUTLAW NOTTINGHAM
A legendary English outlaw, first mentioned in Piers
Plowman in 1377, who was often reputed to be the out-
lawed Earl of Huntingdon. His exploits were centred on
Barnsdale in Yorkshire and more famously, Sherwood
Forest near Nottingham, whose Sheriff was Robins sworn
enemy. The merry men of his greenwood band included
Friar Tuck, Little John, Will Scarlett and Alan-a-Dale as well
as Maid Marian.
After years of robbing the rich to aid the poor, Robin Hood
was bled to death by the prioress of Kirklees Hall near
Halifax. The arrow he fired from his deathbed marked his
grave.
Robin Hood's life and legends have been filmed at least 18
times, with Robin played by Douglas Fairbanks, Errol Flynn
and Sean Connery among others.
