Description
This 12-panel brochure issued by Luftschiffbau Zeppelin in 1933 depicts the airship Graf Zeppelin over the Bodensee (Lake Constance) with the Swiss Alps as a backdrop and was created for travelers who were drawn to Friedrichshafen from all over Germany and Europe to see the Zeppelin Airship Works. Friedrichshafen was Germany's Zeppelin City and was the site for building and flying the magnificent machines of Ferdinand von Zeppelin, from the early pioneers and DELAG passenger airships, most of the wartime raiders and all of the postwar passenger airships including Bodensee, Nordstern, LZ126 / ZR3, Graf Zeppelin, Hindenburg and LZ 130. Visitors were welcome to witness the operational base from which Graf Zeppelin operated. When the airship wasn't flying, one could take an up close tour and beginning in 1933, could tour the adjacent larger hangar in which LZ 129 was being built. Key pioneers behind Zeppelin operations and construction along with detail about the forthcoming airship are highlihted along with artistic depictions of passenger amenities to be featured on the new airship and a photo of an architectural model of the proposed smoking room. Graf Zeppelin's feats and operations are covered with a technical explanation of the airship, accompanied by photos and a diagram of the airship. Visitors are also encouraged to see the Zeppelin Museum. Includes envelope in which brochure was mailed to New York recipient by F.W. "Willy" von Meister, special US representative of Luftschiffbau Zeppelin and Maybach Motors who was an instrumental liaison between the Zeppelin airships, their crews and passengers and the US Navy during their years of service. Brochure measures approximately 8 1/4 x 3 7/8 inches folded and 23 1/4 inches with all panels open. Shows aging commensurate with 84+ years though in overall very fine, clean condition. Thanks for looking at this and my other auctions.
