    Description

    FINE ART ORIGINAL LITHOGRAPH
    "FARRAH'S TOFFEE"
    ARTIST MARY FAULCONER
    This is an exquisite
    Fine Art
    Original Lithograph
    Signed & Numbered
    by famed
    American Artist Mary Faulconer
    (1912-2011)
    . She entitled it,
    "Farrah's Toffee"
    .
    Here
    ,
the artist evokes nostalgia as she presents sprigs and lacy dried grasses in an antique tin of yesteryear,
    a tin from
Farrah's Original Harrogate Toffee! Like so many of her works,
    "Farrah's Toffee"
has a charm about it that
adds a delightful cheerfulness not only to the piece itself, but also to whatever décor it is placed in.
John Farrah founded Farrah's in 1840 and today his company is recognized worldwide for the toffee in its
distinctive blue and silver embossed tins
. The toffee is said to be rich, brittle, and buttery with a hint of lemon, and is handmade in the spa town of Harrogate,
    North Yorkshire in northern England
    .
    "Farrah's Toffee"
    uses
    the antique Farrah's tin
    .
    Ms. Faulconer
was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1912 and was a
    respected and talented artist
, stamp designer, teacher, photographer, and storyteller. She was Art Director for Harper's Bazaar Magazine and later for Mademoiselle. She
    freelanced often
with Fortune, Life Magazine, Look, Vogue, and many other publications. And she taught at the
    Philadelphia Museum School of Art
    .
Ms. Faulconer's work was often made to
    small scale
to be placed on such final small objects as postage stamps, matchboxes, playing cards, and antique tins. She designed six postage stamps for the
    U.S. Postal Service
    in 1974 and designed the
    famous
    Rose Stamp
    in 1978 and the
    even more famous
    Love Stamps
    in 1982.
All of Ms. Faulconer's work was
    precise, exacting, and elegant
. One critic said: "She imparts to a simple vase of flowers on a table all the mystery, joy, and charm that recalls
    the delicacy of a poem
    ". That certainly describes the
    "Farrah's Toffee" Fine Art Image
    to a tee.
