This was my Great Grandmother's Set. My grandmother inherited it and kept the individual pieces in plastic wrap which accounts for the surface patina as you see it. I do not know how old it is. I cannot even find another piece to compare it to. The pattern is literally non-existent within my exhaustive research.
I am not a sterling hollowware/flatware person and know that it would be appreciated so much more by the next owner. It has a beautifully etched floral leaf wreath pattern, pretty finials and a lot of nice details
(see pics 1-3).
. This set should not be considered scrap. I am offering this set at a more than reasonable price (considering the value of silver, the antique/rare nature of this complete 5 piece set & comparing prices with different styles/companies currently listed) & free insured shipping.
There are light surface scratches & tiny dings commensurate with age and use, mainly to the inside of the pieces.
There are some dents on some of the pieces. Please see the pictures for visual details as well as the descriptions below.
Tea Pot:
In great condition. It is missing a small hinge pin
(see pic 8)
that can easily be replaced if you want the lid attached permanently.
(**stamped 500 sans the P)
Coffee Pot:
It is in good condition with one shallow dent
(right side near the bottom of the spout)
in the body and a small rim lift at the base of the pot on the same side
(see pics 6)
Bowl:
In great condition. Little dings on the inside due to use, but do not transfer to the outside of the bowl.
(**stamped 500 sans the P... there is also residue from an old sticker that is easily removed in pic 5)
Creamer:
In good condition with one shallow dent in the pattern that was hard to photograph. You can feel it more than see it depending on how the light hits it and how you hold it. There is a small rim lift at the base of the piece on the other side
(see pics 7 & 12)
Sugar Bowl:
This piece has a little dent on one side. It has 2 dents on the other side. One is near the handle and hard to see. The other is a deeper obvious dent. It does not surprise me that the "sugar bowl" was used the most
(see pics 9-11)
I consulted a silversmith and they told me that dents in the body of the pieces can be restored. It is more difficult to repair handles and spouts which luckily do not have any issues. This set is well worth restoring, though a lot of the little dents and lifts are minor enough to leave alone due to their antique nature. In my opinion the sugar bowl would be the piece to focus on as well as replacing the small hinge pin for the tea pot.
