RARE MULE! 1854 California Gold 1/2. BU Indian/Wreath 4 token/charm/exonumia/bar

Please have a look at this antique California Gold token. This uncommon piece made of solid gold and is in attractive and well struck Brilliant Uncirculated condition. This piece seems to be an interesting muling of two different series. We believe this token to be a bit scarce. It certainly merits further study.
Token is catalogued by Mike Locke as an Octagonal 1854 California Gold 1/2. It has an Indian #1 obverse with 13 stars. This obverse type is usually paired with a Wreath #4b reverse. However, our example has a Wreath 4a reverse. This is the same reverse as is seen on the Indian #1, Wreath 4a 1/2 type. The reverse looks to be the same as the David Showers specimen.
Piece is believed to have been struck in the late 19th or early twentieth century. Research on the series suggests a linkage to Nathan Joseph. He was a coiner of such material and was active from 1880 to 1924. This gold piece weighs 0.3 grams.
This token is made of solid yellow gold. It is believed to have a fineness of about 12 Karat or better. This example has not been tested by us. Whatever its fineness, this is a scarce and interesting piece! This small charm is not denominated and is not legal tender; just an unusual old token.
This piece is in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. It is quite attractive with great detail and lustrous color. The gleaming honey gold color makes for great eye appeal. What a lovely token this is!
