    Description

SCOTTISH STERLING SILVER ORNAMENTAL TEA SET 1872
MADE BY GEORGE & MICHAEL CRICHTON
Pleased to offer a stunning Victorian Scottish silver tea set, in a rather ornamental pattern. Gorgeous intricate hand engraving & bright cut work are displayed on all three pieces.  More importantly, the tea set is in exceptional condition!
Based on an octaganal boxed shape design, using linear elements against a fine hand detailing on every side of the tea pot, cream jug, and sugar bowl culminating in a highly attractive set.
The tea pot, sugar bowl, and cream jug display 3 levels of design.  Each piece has a body integral to the base and a curved top culminating in an applied silver beaded lip border.  Each separated by a rounded horizontal edge.
Every panel of engraved silver is based on vertical lines that create the background, upon which the scroll work, draped border, and entwined ovals  encircle the base.
Tea pot stands 7 inches tall to finial. 10 inches from handle to spout, and 5 inches across the base.
Sugar bowl is 8 inches long by 4 1/2 inches wide, and 5 inches tall.
Cream jug stands 5 inches tall, and 3 1/2 inches wide at the base, and is 6 inches from handle to spout.
Made from a heavy gauge of silver, this set weighs 1,289grams (38oz)
All pieces stand firm & level, and all handles are tight with no movement!
Made by the well regarded Scottish silversmith brothers George & Michael Crichton All pieces clearly stamped with G&MC.  The Thistle for assayed Scottish silver, city stamp of three castle towers for Edinburgh, Date letter of a "Q" within an oval for 1872, and regents head for queen Victoria.

I would say this is a museum quality set, both in condition, maker, and pattern.
