BRITISH LEGENDS AND FAIRY TALES
THE HEAD OF BRAN THE BLESSED
London
The story of Bran the Blessed tells how he brought Christianity to Britain after his own and his
sons' captivity in Rome. He ruled wisely and well, and so firmly held the trust of his people that,
at his death, they placed his head under the White Mount of London, facing towards France,
where lay the chief menace of invasion. But King Arthur, much to the concern of his people, dug
up the head and reburied it facing another way. He disdained to hold the land by any other means
than the strong arms and trusty steel of his Round Table.
