HISTORY: Among the outbuildings typically surrounding a Colonial Williamsburg home, offices are not uncommon. However, the Tayloe office, with its ogee shaped roof and curved, vaulted ceiling inside, is unique, and beautiful. Built sometime in the 18th century, it was later remodeled to include a small bath and kitchenette. This 16’ x 16’ cottage would make an ideal guest house, art studio or home office.
This set of 3 drawing sheets includes a site plan with notes, a floor plan, 4 exterior elevations, and several interesting details of colonial frame and fireplace construction. The original drawings rest in the Library of Congress. As a work of art these prints are worth purchasing in their own right. For those of you interested in building a historically inspired house, these plans offer an excellent starting point. These plans are ideal for a flat site. The cottage consists of a main room with a kitchenette in an alcove and a small bath. This cottage would comfortably tuck into the corner of a garden, right in the middle of the big city, or deep in the countryside. It has outside dimensions of approximately 16’ x 16’. Please visit my other auctions for many other drawings I am offering. I have house plans in wide variety of styles including Colonial, Craftsman, and Prairie, as well as plans of architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Irving Gill, Purcell & Elmslie and others.

IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO BUILD: These plans are not complete architectural drawings as might be required by your local permitting agency and do not contain all the structural, waterproofing and other details and information necessary for construction. But your local builder or architect should be able to adapt these drawings and add to them as necessary. What they do provide is accurate design information about a REAL Colonial house, not a pseudo-colonial tract house as you will find in the house plan magazines on your supermarket shelf
The original drawings from which these dimensionally accurate scans were made are kept at the Historic American Building Survey, in the Library of Congress.
