THE PRINCES IN THE TOWER
EDWARD V AND PRINCE OF YORK
The two boys who became 'The Princes in the Tower' were Edward V of England
and his brother, Richard of Shrewsbury. Both boys were English royalty as their
father, King Edward IV, who was the first Yorkist king, ascended to the throne in
1461. As first born son, Edward was first in succession to the throne, and Richard
was second. Edward was given the title Prince of Wales, and Richard became the
First Duke of York.
