Description
Early sterling silver coffee and tea set. Made by John C. Moore for Tiffany & Co. in New York in 1850s. This set comprises 5 pieces: coffeepot, teapot, creamer, sugar, and waste bowl. Chased and engraved grape bunches and leaves as well as vine handles, spouts, finials, and rims. The relief ornament and large forms are representative of Tiffany's midcentury wares. Three-letter monogram (EAB) engraved on each piece.All pieces fully marked with pre-1856 pattern no. 299 and maker's stamp. Coffeepot has "Tiffany & Compy" retailer's stamp (1848-52). Waste bowl has "Tiffany & Co. late Tiffany, Young & Ellis" retailer's stamp (1854-55). Teapot, creamer, and sugar have "Tiffany & Co." retailer's stamp with phrase "English Sterling" (1854-70) and order no. 4050.
