Description
For the advanced Ruth Gibbs doll collector....UNUSUAL, very large
and very pretty, 12 inch tall,
RUTH GIBBS,
pink-tint
, matte (not the normal shiny glaze) finish experimental (prototype) china shoulderhead doll by
Ruth Gibbs
, Flemington, N.J.,
circa 1940s,
and designed by
Herbert Johnson
. This absolutely delightful doll is in excellent condition wearing her charming, (made from McCall pattern #1292) long antique, ecru bridal lace gown with trim and matching lacy bonnet with black ribbon trim to match the one around her waist and a long cotton petticoat (mend in lace at hemline). She has a
cloth body with pale pink china limbs
and wonderful
FLAT smooth painted
gold necklace (not the raised molded necklace, usually seen)
and
brown heeled shoes with
painted ribbon bow ties!
She has lovely molded features with large, blue painted eyes, long eyelashes, rosy cheeks, slightly parted lips and pretty, brown curly, painted hair. She looks to be an early design as her china head is not finished with the normal high glaze but a very attractive soft matte type finish. What a terrific member of this famous
classic
family
of "Godey's Ladies" dolls produced by an
American manufacturer during the World War II era.
She has no damages, no repairs, or fading and no odors as she is from a smoke free home. Be sure to see our
other Ruth Gibbs china dolls
listed this week as shown in last photos,
not included
and each listed separately.
