Description
A magnificent point of view of the airliner intended to take on the airship Graf Zeppelin in transatlantic passenger operations. The Dornier DOX was ambitious, though proved overly so, never managing to match Graf Zeppelin, let alone Hindenburg performance. Nonetheless, a fantastic and rare sea bird. The largest airplane of its day, the DOX was referred to by its creators as a flying ship, evident in the craft's ship-like prow and overall shape. Though not particularly known for its performance, the DOX was a benchmark in advancing metal airplane structure. This postcard shows the great plane commencing its long, long take-off run on the Bodensee where Dornier and Zeppelin had their factories. Unposted, unused, in excellent condition. Thanks for looking at this and my other auctions.
