Description
This China head doll is part of my collection started in the 1950’s. Her creator was Clara Maude Hilton. She and her daughter, Ernestine, carried on the Hilton pottery business, started in the mid 1800’s, in Catawba Valley, NC. I acquired his doll around 1960.This China head doll is made of porcelain and has a painted face with black hair, along with porcelain arms and legs with painted high heel black shoes. The name ‘Hilton’ is impressed on the back of the China head. Her body is cloth that has been tightly stuffed.
She has all of her original beautifully sewn, handmade, clothes. Her dress is a red print cotton with off-white lace trim near the neck. Under that she has an ecru cotton slip and pantaloons that are trimmed with lace. The clothes are removable. There is a snap at the back of the neck and straight pins to secure the dress.
This doll comes from a smoke free home and has been used only for display. She has been a sweet addition to my collection.
