Vintage 7¾” Sterling Silver Tea Pot by George Nathan and Ridley Hayes Co.!
This is a 7¾” tall sterling silver or 925 purity silver tea pot made by George Nathan & Ridley Hayes Co.,
a well known company for Arts & Crafts interpretations of early English silver
The pot measures 7¾” tall and 6½” wide from handle to spout
The handle is made out of wood
The finial is unique; slanted toward back to the wood handle
The teapot is beautiful engraved with flowers, scrolls and leaves
The pot is hallmarked on the side with the lion passant for sterling silver or 925 of purity silver
On English silver, the lion passant (walking lion) is the symbol for sterling silver (925 purity silver)
The marks consist of lion passant for sterling silver, a maker’s mark NH for Nathan & Hayes,
a shield for the city and the date letter “C” for 1897 or later
George Nathan and Ridley Hays entered their hallmark on their silver pieces in 1897
The company traded under the name of “Nathan and Hayes”
After 1912 Hayes is not listed and either he must be presumed to have died or Nathan bought out the company.
The company was absorbed by S Blanckensee & Sons Ltd later in the 20
th
century
This tea pot is in very great to excellent condition for its age! It has no nick, no chip and no repair at all
The total weigh is 10.4 ounces or 323.9 grams
