We have acquired and will be listing a large amount of items from the childhood home of Estes Kefauver. Estes Kefauver was born in 1903 in Madisonville, Tn. He was a member of the Democratic Party. He Served in the United States House of Representatives from 1939 to 1949. From 1949 until his death in 1963 he was a United States Senator. He went to the University of Tennessee and Yale University. He headed a much publicized investigation into organized crime of the mafia in the early 1950s. Ran for President of the United States twice. And in 1956 he was the running mate of Presidential Nominee Adlai Stevenson against Eisenhower-Nixon. He was also named chair of the United States Senate Antitrust and Monopoly Subcommittee in 1957 serving as its chairman until his death.
His childhood home was built around 1834 and purchased in the early 1900s by Estes' parents. It has remained in the family and in 2005 suffered a fire in part of the front entry. Therefore some items may have some slight smoke damage.
