    Description

September 2, 1943 prescription written by Dr. E M Chitwood of the Chitwood Clinic in Wytheville, Virginia. Instructions say Take to Central Drug Store.  Chitwood Clinic was a small hospital founded by Dr. E. M. Chitwood and Dr. C. D. Moore in Wytheville, Virginia. Wytheville was named for George Wythe who mentored Thomas Jefferson.
In researching the good doctor, I came across an amusing anecdote. According to court records, on June 6th, 1941 at approximately 10pm a couple of gentleman who were feeling their liquor decided to go to Bluefield, West Virginia. The reason for this trip was never clear apart from their inebriation. They needed a car and seeing Dr. Chitwood's car parked in front of his office, said, "There is Dr. Chitwood's car, let's take it."
They wrecked the car on the way to Bluefield and one of them was badly injured. Eventually County officers located the car and the two gentleman who had left the scene. The men were returned to Wytheville. The officers brought the injured man to see Dr. C. D. Moore, but Dr. Moore was not in. So, the car thief was treated by none other than Dr. E. M. Chitwood, owner of the stolen car. Wouldn't you have liked to hear that conversation?
