    Description

WWI SILK FLAGS IMPERIAL GERMANY RUSSIA CANADA CHINA JAPAN MEXICO SPAIN ANTIQUE.
Rare Collection of 8 silk flags mounted on wood staffs with gilt finials.  These flags are genuine antiques and date from the World War I era or earlier. Here is a description of each flag. Canada is the red  ensign with a 7 province badge that was used until 1905. China is the 5 stripe flag of the 1912 revolution. England is represented by the Red Ensign. The Imperial German naval ensign is especially desirable as the vast majority of examples seen on ebay are modern fakes - here is your opportunity to acquire a genuine example made before 1918. The Japanese naval ensign is the same flag used during WW2. The "Andrew's Cross" of the Russian Navy was suppressed during the Soviet Union of 1918-1991 and has been re-adopted. The merchant flag of Spain was in use until the Spanish Civil War in the 1930s.
These flags are small, measuring about 2 inches by 3 inches each, on 8 1/2 inch staffs. Framed and displayed together they would make an interesting display of early 20th century history.
The condition is best described as "fragile." The 100 to 120 year old silk is splitting in some areas but the flags are intact as you can see on the pics.
